Club History
a. Rawalpindi Golf Club is one of the oldest Golf Clubs of Pakistan, founded on 2 Nov 1885 in area Topi Park (now Ayub Park). Work started in 1924 and was completed in 1926 using labour from nearby Rawalpindi jail.
b. The golf activity slowed immediately before and after 1947 and picked up again around mid-fifties under the patronage of the then Commander-in-Chief (Late) Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan. Browns were converted into greens in 1960 and an elaborate irrigation system was developed.
c. As the golf course and club began to flourish, there were many “Firsts”that placed Rawalpindi Golf Club above others. The first club to construct golf course by means of real labour. The first to build a proper club house; the first to be an incorporated golf club; the first to become the home of golf in Pakistan i-e. the founding place of Pakistan Golf Federation, established in 1960 and known as Pakistan Golf Union at that time. The club house opposite army house was constructed during the period 1962-64 and was inaugurated in April 1964.
d. Rawalpindi Golf Club underwent great development from 1981 onwards under the patronage of the then President of Pakistan, General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. The Club received generous grants, the course was redesigned, new fairways and greens were made, a picturesque sight was selected and the new clubhouse was constructed and inaugurated in October 1983. Today it is an 18 hole course spread over 189.67 acres of land which was on lease from Cantonment Board Rawalpindi. However on transfer of land of Ayub Park as well as Rawalpindi Golf Club to AHF, the management of AHF is making all out efforts to take the control of Rawalpindi Golf Club on the plea of being owner of the land.
